What is My origins in 90 seconds?
This is a brand new event for Société historique et généalogique de Smoky River. We need you (or anyone that you know) to help us by participating! If you have a story you would like to tell about yourself or your family, we would love to hear it. Some more examples of stories could be:
- Being a beekeeper/ if your family farmed something interesting
- A hobby or a game that you do or used to do
- A recipe
- A tall tale passed down through your family
- A funny anecdote
- Someone that you miss or no longer see
- A ghost story passed down through your family
- Any interesting anecdote that you would like to share
*A good tip to help you come up with ideas is to ask yourself: What’s something that your family always reminisces about? Chances are, it’ll make a great topic to explore further at the workshop!
What happens at the workshop?
We will be organizing full-day workshops that you can attend. The first part will be hosted by Thomas Chenard, where you will learn how to tell your families’ stories so that it can can help preserve local and regional history. This workshop will include a lunch break in the middle. The afternoon will cover how to film and edit videos, hosted by Réjean Lavoie.

What are the contest details?
You will then make a 90 second video telling your anecdote. The workshop will help you to find information needed to really make your video pop: newspaper clippings, photos, documents, anything!
Next, the videos will be sent to use to be posted on our social media pages: Facebook, instagram and youtube. The person with the most combined views on each platform will win a prize!
